Roll a race — or plan to re-roll
Character creation gives you a random race from five, and the odds are lopsided: Human rolls 60% of the time, Nephilim just 0.5%. Higher rarities hit harder but carry drawbacks, so there is no single "correct" roll. The practical opening move is to keep whatever you roll and level on it — you can change race later with a Race Spin earned in the AFK World.
If you do get to choose, Human is quietly excellent for a first character: no combat bonuses, but +5% XP and +5% mastery gain mean you reach weapon skills and endgame systems faster, then re-roll toward a combat race once you have Race Spins banked. If you rolled Minotaur, Duskborn or Nephilim, lean into their strengths — tanky posture-breaking, night magic, and crit burst respectively.
Learn the controls that matter first
MythFall is skill-based, so a handful of inputs carry your whole early game — and no MythFall beginner guide is worth much until the controls are muscle memory. Movement is WASD with Shift to sprint; everything else is combat:
| Action | Key |
|---|---|
| Move | W A S D |
| Sprint | Shift |
| Light attack | M1 (left click) |
| Heavy / strong attack | R |
| Rush attack | W W |
| Block (hold) / Parry (tap) | F |
| Dodge / dash | Q |
| Lock-on | Tab |
| Climb | G |
| Crouch / slide | C / Shift+C |
| Weapon moveset | 1 |
| Magic moveset | 2 |
| Fighting styles | 3 |
| Abilities | Z X V |
Keybinds are customizable, and console/mobile map these to controller buttons and touch controls.
The three combat verbs
Forget combos for a moment — the one MythFall beginner guide rule that matters most is that survival comes down to three defensive verbs, and getting them right is what separates a smooth run from a graveyard.
- Block (hold F): reduces damage but drains as you hold. A panic button, not a plan.
- Parry (tap F on the hit): a perfectly timed block negates the damage and opens the enemy up. This is the single most valuable skill to practise early.
- Dodge (Q): a dash with invincibility frames. Roll through attacks, not away from them.
Layered on top is posture. Landing hits — especially heavy ones — fills an enemy's stagger bar toward a break point. Break it and you get a punish window; big weapons and the Minotaur race break posture fastest.
Level fast with AoE magic
The MythFall beginner guide shortcut to fast early leveling is magic. Area-of-effect spells clear packs of enemies at once, feeding both your character XP and your Magic Mastery track simultaneously. Even on a weapon-focused build, keeping one AoE spell slotted dramatically speeds up the grind through Island One's early acts. Playing in a party stacks an XP bonus on top, so group up when you can.
Forge to +5 before you fight bosses
MythFall's bosses are handcrafted with real movesets, and walking in with a base weapon is how new players get flattened. The fix is the mine-and-forge loop: gather ore by mining, take it to Blacksmithing, and upgrade your main weapon. The community benchmark is clear — get your weapon to +5 before attempting a boss.
Pair the upgraded weapon with a leveled Weapon Mastery so you have that weapon's skills unlocked, and the same boss that wrecked you at base becomes very manageable. If you remember only one MythFall beginner guide rule for bosses, make it this: never fight one on a base weapon.
Your first few hours, in order
If you follow one thing from this MythFall beginner guide, follow this checklist — it front-loads the preparation that makes the first boss fair:
- Finish character creation and note your race — check its strengths.
- Do the opening story quest to reach the main world.
- Slot an AoE spell and clear mobs to level both your character and Magic Mastery.
- Start mining as you explore; feed ore into Blacksmithing.
- Upgrade your main weapon toward +5 and level its Weapon Mastery.
- Only then take on the act's boss — parry its telegraphed hits, dodge the rest, break its posture.
- Bank Race Spins in the AFK World if you want to chase a different race later.
